Frequently Asked Questions

Trading

What are trading windows?
Stash executes trades in two distinct trading windows. These windows only operate in normal market hours (i.e. Monday-Friday, excluding market holidays). The two windows per day are: Window 1: 9:45am - 10:00am (Eastern Time) - for orders placed between 3:30.00pm and 9:44.59am (Eastern Time) the following day Window 2: 3:30pm - 3:45pm (Eastern Time) - for orders placed between 9:45.00am and 3:29.59pm (Eastern Time) Stash is designed as a long term investing tool.
Can I sell a portion of my investment?
Yes, you can sell part of an investment. However if you wish to only sell a portion, we require that you keep at least 10% and/or a minimum holding of $5 of that investment at the time of sale. This is to mitigate the risk of price fluctuations, causing you to sell more of an investment than you actually own.
What's the difference between selling partially and selling all?
Selling all means you will be selling all of the shares you have for any one investment.  Selling partially means that you are selling a specific dollar amount of the investment you own.
If I sold all, why did the value that I sold at change?
Due to our two trading windows and constant changes in market prices, the value you receive may be slightly more or less than the value at which you placed your order. Stash will always attempt to get you the best price in the upcoming trading window.
If I sell my investment, when do I receive the money from the sale?
When you sell your investment, you will have access to the funds three business days after the sell date. This is due to the US settlement process.  During this time, your sale proceeds will be listed as "unsettled funds" on the accounts tab in the Stash Invest app. Please note: Business days are Monday through Friday, and do not include weekends and federal holidays.
